Ontario Power Authority's Feed-In-TariffIn the fall of 2009, the Province of Ontario's Green Energy Act was put into action, with the objective of encouraging "green" infrastructure investment and economic growth in Ontario.
A key component of the Green Energy Act is the incentive for investment in sources of clean, renewable energy generated by individuals for supply to the Province's power grid.
The Feed-In-Tariff (FIT) program, administered by the Ontario Power Authority (OPA), provides opportunities for individuals, businesses, and municipalities to make a sound investment in renewable energy generation. The Solar PV Investment Opportunity
The OPA's microFIT program has established specific price rates for projects sized at 10kW or less, payable to generators of renewable power across the Provice. The microFIT rates are currently set as follows:
MicroFIT-sized Solar PV systems (10kW or less) present the best price to the generator of the eligible microFIT technologies. Considering OPA's Solar PV price index, the pay-back rate is approximately 10 time the residential pay-out rate, resulting in a potential return on investment as high as 14%.
